I Do This For My Culture
WELCOME
The weather has been fantastic here in Brooklyn. I can’t remember the last time I’ve been home for this long in a row, but I’m loving the routine that’s coming from it.
In today’s issue, Jay runs into some problemos and I do a little reflecting on Change.
Enjoy!
SHORT STORY
The Reckoning

As Jay’s network expanded and their exploits became bolder, the city’s elite grew increasingly desperate to stop them. Richard “Rick” Masters, still reeling from his financial losses, hired a private investigator named Guy Gisborne to track down the elusive vigilante. Gisborne was a ruthless and cunning man, with a reputation for getting results by any means necessary.
Jack and his team knew they were under increasing scrutiny, but they also knew they couldn’t afford to back down. The city needed them, and they were determined to continue their mission. Little John had uncovered another target: a hedge fund manager named Simon Locksley, who was known for his ruthless business practices and ties to organized crime.
Locksley’s fund had recently acquired several affordable housing units, with plans to evict the tenants and redevelop the properties into luxury apartments. The team knew they had to act quickly to prevent another wave of displacement and suffering.
One evening, as Jack sat in his apartment, he received an urgent message from Little John. “We’ve got a problem. Gisborne is closing in on us. We need to be extra careful.”
Jack’s heart pounded in his chest. He knew the risks, but he couldn’t let fear stop him. “We’ll be careful. But we can’t let up now. Locksley needs to be stopped.”
The team devised a plan to infiltrate Locksley’s financial systems and expose his criminal activities. Jack worked tirelessly, his fingers flying over the keyboard as he hacked into the hedge fund’s servers. Marian used her legal expertise to gather evidence and prepare a case against Locksley, while Tuck coordinated with local activists to mobilize support.
As they prepared for the heist, tensions ran high. They knew Gisborne was closing in, and one wrong move could lead to their capture. But they also knew that the stakes were too high to back down.
The night of the heist, Jack, Marian, and Tuck met in the same dimly lit warehouse in Brooklyn. The air was thick with anticipation and fear.
“We’ve got one shot at this,” Jack said, his voice steady despite the tension. “Let’s make it count.”
They moved quickly and efficiently, executing their plan with precision. Jack breached Locksley’s servers, transferring the stolen funds to accounts set up to benefit the city’s poor. Marian ensured that the legal case against Locksley was airtight, and Tuck coordinated with local organizations to distribute the money and gather support.
As the heist unfolded, Gisborne and his team were hot on their trail. They tracked Jack’s digital footprints, closing in on the warehouse. Jack’s heart raced as he realized they were running out of time.
“We need to get out of here, now!” Jack shouted, his voice filled with urgency.
The team scrambled to gather their equipment and flee the warehouse. They knew they had to disappear before Gisborne and his men arrived.
Just as they were about to leave, they heard the sound of footsteps approaching. Jack’s heart pounded in his chest as he turned to see Gisborne and his team entering the warehouse.
“Freeze! You’re under arrest!” Gisborne shouted, his gun drawn.
Jack’s mind raced as he searched for a way out. He knew they couldn’t afford to be captured. With a quick glance at Marian and Tuck, he made a split-second decision.
“Go! I’ll hold them off!” Jack shouted, his voice filled with determination.
Marian and Tuck hesitated for a moment, but they knew they had no choice. They fled the warehouse, disappearing into the night as Jack stayed behind to face Gisborne.
Jack knew he was outnumbered and outgunned, but he was determined to protect his friends and their mission. He fought with everything he had, using his agility and cunning to evade capture. But despite his best efforts, Gisborne’s men overpowered him, and he was arrested.
As Jack was led away in handcuffs, he knew that his capture was a setback, but it wasn’t the end. Marian and Tuck were still out there, and the mission would continue. Jay had become more than just one man; it was a movement, and it would live on.

PLAYLIST OF THE WEEK
The Reckoning

I’ve been JAMMING to the last song on this playlist. As always, these are some old-school jams. Give this week’s playlist a listen here.
WHAT I’M READING

Switch: How To Change Things When Change Is Hard - Before becoming a new manager in Chicago I grabbed this book. I knew helping out an office that was dead last in producing revenue at our company would be difficult. Reading through this book helped me lead our team to being a top-10 team in our company. Something I’m still proud of to this day. If you’re looking to make a massive change for yourself, this book is a must-read!

REFLECTIONS
Changes

Don’t let the picture fool you… I am indeed still taller than my nephew (for now)
I’ve been focused on making some changes this month. Hence why I picked up the book “Power of Habit” and also turned back to the book Switch. I’ve always been a big believer in pursuing your growth over everything else. With growth, you have to get used to change.
Here are a few reflections when it comes to change:
The Older I Get, The More Healthy I Want To Become - Once in a while I’m reminded that I’m not as young as I used to be. I used to be able to go to the gym once a day, drink with my friends throughout the week, and maintain an impressively fit body. Recently I looked in the mirror, saw my beer belly, and decided to get a juicer. I’m making light of the situation, but in all seriousness, health is wealth. As you get older, it’s so important to take care of your mind, body, and spirit in the best way you can so that you can stretch your years as much as possible. As I’ve been trying to train for the NYC Marathon coming up in November, I’ve realized that my body isn’t what it used to be and I need to get a better exercise routine together so that I can fight off disease and illness as much as possible. Whether that means going on more walks outside, working out, meditating, or even praying. I urge each of you to do what’s necessary to put your mind and body in a good headspace. Your future you will thank you. We don’t live forever, but we can do what we can to live longer.
Changing Jobs Is Ok - If you know me, I’m a big advocate of taking care of yourself financially, even if that doesn’t come from your current company. I decided to start my own marketing agency back in April and although it hasn’t been a walk in the park, I feel liberated that I’m able to control my financial future. I’ve always believed that it’s important to take your future into your own hands, and while it’s not impossible to do while employed by somebody else, I do believe it can be more difficult. Don’t get me wrong though, if you have a good job, at a good company, with good security, I don’t think you should just jump ship. But I implore you to think about different ways to get to financial freedom.
Relationships - As we grow, so should our relationships. One of the hardest things I had to accept not too long ago is that there are people who are meant to be in your life for just a season. When that season has changed, it’s time for you to move on. That truth continues to be a tough pill for me to swallow. But I will say this too - some people will be there with you for multiple seasons, and you should do your best to cherish and nurture those relationships to the best of your ability. And be thankful for those that have come and gone.
The one constant thing in life is change. It’s hard yes, but if you are able to look at who you’ve become because of it, then you won’t try to run or hide from it.
I wish you all nothing but the best as you continue to grow, change, and blossom into the new you.
See you all next week!
