SHORT STORY

Home Again

Alice emerged from the portal and found herself back on the desolate subway platform. The notebook was still clutched in her hand, but the pages were now blank. She felt a mix of relief and sadness, the adventure already feeling like a distant dream. She made her way back to her apartment, the familiar sights and sounds of New York City grounding her.

As she settled back into her routine, she noticed subtle changes within herself. The experience had left an indelible mark, a new perspective on her life and surroundings. The city seemed a bit more magical, its mundane aspects now infused with a sense of possibility.

One evening, as she walked through Central Park, she felt a strange sense of déjà vu. She found herself at the spot where she had shared that cherished memory with her grandmother. She sat down on a bench, letting the nostalgia wash over her. A faint smile played on her lips as she realized that while the memory was no longer vivid, the emotions it carried were still with her.

Alice continued her daily life, but with a newfound sense of adventure and curiosity. She often found herself daydreaming about the fantastical world she had visited, wondering if it still existed somewhere beneath the city’s surface. And sometimes, late at night, she would open the blank notebook, half-expecting it to fill with new sketches and notes, ready to lead her on another adventure.

One day, as she walked through Union Square, she spotted a familiar figure in the crowd. The man with the rabbit ears was standing by the entrance to the subway, checking his watch. Alice smiled and approached him.

“Back in a hurry, are we?” she asked, a playful glint in her eye.

The rabbit-eared man looked up, recognition dawning on his face. He smiled back. “Always, Alice. Always.”

With a nod, he disappeared into the crowd, leaving Alice with the lingering sense that her adventures were far from over. She watched him go, feeling a spark of excitement. After all, in a city as vibrant and unpredictable as New York, anything was possible.

As she walked away, the notebook tucked safely in her bag, Alice knew that she would always be ready for whatever came next, whether it was another fantastical journey or simply a new way of seeing the world around her.

REFLECTIONS

Patiently Waiting

I’m in Dallas for my connected flight to ATL, so this may be much shorter than usual. But I find myself in an interesting waiting period in my life. The thing is, I feel really good about it. Waiting to get through some interview processes. And waiting for Jan 1st, I got a hot date then 😉 .

  1. Un-Hinged - I deleted the dating apps and I’m very happy about it 😀 - ❤️7.11❤️

  2. Mental Health - Don’t wait until you’re not ok to talk to others about the things that are going on in your life. It really helps to have a support system and to be somebody’s support system. As the holiday season is coming up, I urge you to check in with your family and friends. Make sure they feel loved.

  3. Cooking - I’ve decided that I can no longer eat out as much as I have been. So I’m going to start cooking on a consistent basis. If you have any easy dishes that you think I should try out, hit me up. I can’t become a multi-millionaire if I’m just being wasteful and throwing money down the drain in restaurants and bars.

See you all next week!
